COVID19 Diary - Part 1

I am going bananas with this whole COVID19 thing.

I've been working from home for a week now and since Saturday, been experiencing cabin fever. What's worse is no one knows how long this thing will last, how long we're stuck not being able to move around.

Initially, it wasn't so bad. I live in a building where we have a gym, pool & billiards table. Cool, I can still do stuff. Then we found out one of the residents tested positive. Fuck. Hours later, I found out someone from my office building has it too. Double fuck.

I'm statistically fucked, no? I want to get tested but we don't have enough kits - reserved for severe cases only.

Anyway, I can't deal with this shit. So I started a virtual drinking session - social media is so toxic that I figured this might be a friendlier way to cope. And when we get through this, we celebrate by having drinks in person.

Good Night

Fake moon at the Mind Museum. Photo by author.

Insomnia is my normal. I've tried everything to help me sleep. Name it, done.

Tried adult coloring books - bought a lot but stopped when I realized they kept me up too. Oh well.

I Fell In Love With Hedwig

Ticket and playbill. Photo by author.

Three things I had to absolutely do while in New York: reconnect with the Italians, spend quality time with a friend I hold close to my heart and watch a musical on Broadway.

Before I even got there, I had my heart set on Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I've always been intrigued by the story and Neil Patrick Harris' Tony performance had me convinced I'd be a total loser if I missed it.

My heart beat faster as I approached the Belasco Theatre. Photo by author.

R took me to the Belasco Theatre in the afternoon to score a ticket for the evening show. He had a business dinner so I had a lot of time on my hands.

My excitement made me take a photo of this posted outside the theatre. Photo by author.

Truth be told, I was a little disappointed that NPH was done with Hedwig and I wasn't sure if Darren Criss would deliver. He did and he was excellent. There was a microphone malfunction and he ad-libbed his way through it (found out days after) - I wasn't sure if it was part of the act or not.

Another friend, who has watched every actor play Hedwig on Broadway, described how she was a different woman each time. NPH was raunchy, JCM was disillusioned. I think Darren made her sweet and unfortunately unaware.

Waiting for the show to start. Photo by the author.

Sorry, Wicked. Sorry, Rent. Sorry, Avenue Q. Hedwig now tops my list because of the story, acting & music.

After the show, R and I met up with some friends at Therapy on 52nd. Drinks, Drag and a damn good time! It was one of the best days of my life.

Then & Now: Vampurr the Cat

Back when he was still called Mycroft. Photo by author.

They grow up so fast. Vampurr (formerly known as Mycroft Holmes) was 10 weeks old when the above photo was taken.

He's turning two in a few weeks... he's also turning into a silly cat! Look at him on the bed, copying me. Hahaha!

He only responds when he's called Vampurr. Photo by author.
